WaterNet and partners organize the first AfriAlliance conference in Ekurhuleni, South Africa

The first AfriAlliance Conference took place at the Birchwood Hotel, Ekurhuleni, South Africa. This was in parallel to the Local Climate Solutions for Africa 2017: Water and Climate Congress from 22-24 March 2017. WaterNet led the workpackage on enhancing knowledge sharing and technology transfer under which this inaugural conference was organized.

The event was aimed at addressing issues surrounding with water and climate. There were 12 sessions in total that were hosted by AfriAlliance. Some of the themes included showcasing African initiatives, smart solutions for water and climate, including monitoring and forecasting efforts.

The AfriAlliance Consortium consist of 15 partners from Africa and Europe focusing on innovations for water and climate in Africa. It is a five year project with the overall objective to establish mechanisms for African and European stakeholders to work together in the areas of water innovation, research, policy and capacity development in order to enhance the preparedness of Africa for future climate change challenges.
