On November 15, the webinar «Stakeholder Capacity Development on Sanitation and Water for All towards Mutual Accountability» was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS), the South Asia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Water Resource Studies (SaciWATERs) and Cap-Net.
The opening speech by Dr Atiq Rahman, Executive Director of BCAS, gave a short overview of what Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) means, the current scenario in Bangladesh, what mutual accountability is, why it is important and especially in the current situation of the pandemic.
The webinar aimed to increase awareness and understanding among stakeholders in the WASH sector, especially in emergencies such as Covid-19. It focused on improving cooperation between stakeholders towards mutual accountability, promoting and ensuring sustainable WASH services.
During the webinar, issues related to existing practices, challenges and opportunities for mutual accountability mechanisms within a multi-stakeholder partnership were discussed. Thirty-seven participants attended the webinar.
The webinar was instrumental in fostering mutual knowledge on the topic, and the participants expressed the need for organising regular webinars to promote this.
