Climate & Water
Second Webinar Series
“Water and Climate Coordination”
Supporting the NDCs and future Implementation under the Paris Agreement
What are the climate webinars?
The webinar series set out to contribute to strengthen climate and water linkages in national frameworks such as NDCs, NAPs and various investment mechanisms. It aims in particular to highlight climate and water inter-linkages and contribute to improve the coordination across climate and water decision-makers and professionals; provide examples of coordination and implantation mechanisms and introduce the financing landscape of climate and water.
The learning objectives of these webinars are:
- To build awareness and understanding on linkages between climate and water
- To build awareness and understanding on plans and tools to support implementation of water and climate coordination
- To build awareness and understanding on financing mechanisms on climate and water coordination
The webinars
18 February: Interactions between water and different sectors
On our first webinar we will discuss the importance of ensuring that water interactions are considered in their NDCs, as countries adjust development paths as a result of Covid-19 impact on country finances, intersectoral linkages, observations on differences between first and enhanced NDCs. It will introduce a practical tool for identifying climate and water inter-linkages.
Speakers: Dizzane Billy, Climate Tracker; Marc Manyifika, Ministry for the Environment, Rwanda; Oscar Galvis, Coordinator of the Mines and Energy sector within the Colombian Strategy of Low carbon, Adapted and Resilient Development; Marianne Kjellén, UNDP; Danielle Gaillard-Picher GWP; Ingrid Timboe AGWA; Hakan Tropp, SIWI; Maggie White, SIWI.
25 February: From Commitments to Implementation
In our second webinar the conversation aims to share experiences in preparing documents that include climate change related activities, as well as their lessons from addressing commitments found in the first round of NDC’s. While it is generally recognised that water and water-related activities were included as priority activities in the first series of NDC’s, with over 80% of NDC’s containing water-related provision, there remain questions as to whether the priority in the NDC was matched during implementation.
Speakers: David Hebart-Coleman, SIWI; Katharina Davis, UNDP; Thibaud Voita, NDC Partnership; Robin Ward, UNICEF-SIWI; Joseph Mbinji, GWP SAf; Callist Tindimugaya, Ministry of Water and Environment, Uganda; Anjali Lohani, Global Water Partnership.
4 March: Climate Finance – Exploring Options for Funding Water & Climate
The third webinar aims to build on the learnings of the first webinar that introduced the three main global climate finance mechanisms and their modalities. In this session the emphasis will be on the practicalities of securing finance, obtaining accreditation, and building good investment cases by using examples from successful entities.
Speakers: John Matthews, AGWA; Nathalie Mutalikanwa, FORNEWA, Rwanda; Raoudha Gafrej, Water Resources and Adaptation Expert - Tunisia; Alex Simalabwi, GWP; Danielle Gaillard-Picher, GWP; Marianne Kjellen, UNDP.
