Regional Training of Trainers (TOT) on “Application of Remote Sensing Techniques in Irrigation Water Management” 11 to 15 May 2015, Tunisia (for Africa region)

Under the framework of TIGER initiative, the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) with collaboration from technical university in Delft (TU-DELFT) and support of Cap-Net (UNDP) is organizing ‘Training of Trainers (TOT)’ course in the “Application of Remote Sensing techniques in Irrigation Water Management” from 11 to 15 May 2015. The training will be held at OSS, Tunis, Tunisia. This course aims to develop the capacity of irrigation water managers and trainers on the application of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) to retrieve relevant biophysical variables for water productivity and drought monitoring.

The training will be a combination of short lectures, practical exercises, group work and discussion. The training will be conducted in English and French and is supported with training material available in the TIGER training kit and case studies, structured so as to incorporate participants’ relevant experience and lessons application to their local context. The training will bring together participants from Africa (priority will be given to the nominations from Cap-Net networks and TIGER regional offices). The target group will include: Agriculture and Rural Development agencies, Water Resources Managers, Researchers in Water and agriculture, Environmental Managers and Practitioners, RS and GIS experts and trainers or any other relevant discipline.

Limited number of participants will be funded by OSS and Cap-Net UNDP (travel, accommodation and DSA). Participants with own funding for travel and accommodation will also be considered based on the availability of space.

Application Procedure
Cap-Net regional and country networks in Africa and TIGER regional offices are encouraged to nominate the participant/s (if it is more than one nomination please rank them based on priority). All the nominations should be sent to Nabil Ben Khatra (OSS) indicating the name and the network and all nominees shouldregister via this link. The dateline for application is 15 April 2015.
