Capacity building on water resources management

Training programme on capacity building for the leaders of community-based water societies was developed in Badulla & Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka.

On 26 June the first of three one-day training programmes on capacity building for the leaders of community-based water societies in Badulla & Nuwara Eliya was held in the Nuwara Eliya District. The training programme was developed between Cap-Net Lanka, World Vision Lanka (WVL) and WaSo Project. About 102 participants participated in the programme.

The training programme included lectures and discussions on “community-based adaptation for water resource management and conservation”. The participants came up with action plans for water source conservation as “our actions to conserve our natural water springs” by the end of the training.

The global 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic has led to severe global socioeconomic disruption, the postponement or cancellation of sporting, religious, and cultural events. Therefore the face to face capacity building activities in Sri Lanka have to be postponed as it happened in all other countries. This workshop was the first face to face training program conducted by Cap-Net Lanka after the pandemic’s measures implemented in Sri Lanka changed.

The programme was coordinated by Mr Dimuthu Daluwatte, World Vision Lanka (WVL), WaSo Project and Dr S. Pathmarajah of Cap-Net Lanka.
