The Argentine Network for Training and Strengthening of Integrated Water Resources Management (Arg Cap-Net), the Federal Water Council (COHIFE) and the Undersecretariat of Water Resources of the Nation (SSRH) organized and held the 3rd National Conference on Water Policy. The event was held on June 27 and 28 at the Palacio de las Aguas Corrientes (AySA), Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
The objective of the Conference was to promote the participation of stakeholders related to water resources, seeking to include all those responsible in different jurisdictions and areas: politicians, officials, technicians, user organizations, basin organizations, study centers, non-governmental organizations, governmental organizations and, in general, all those institutions and people concerned with water management, one of the problems to be solved in Argentina and in the world in this century.
During the meeting, the lines of work of the second conference that were developed in the headquarters of the National Library in June of 2004 were resumed and updated. This event, whose motto ‘From the vision to the action’, was the first great milestone achieved by COHIFE shortly after its creation in 2003 and defined COHIFE’s agenda to date. As a highlighted fact, in September 2003 the water management agencies of Argentina signed the Federal Water Agreement, which established the “Guiding Principles of Water Policy of the Argentine Republic”.
After 13 years of that event, the organizers of this new edition considered its importance to re-discuss some themes and incorporate others under the slogan ‘Water policy in the framework of the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Objectives’, to further progress in the analysis of the priority water problems in Argentina, under the principles of integrated water resources management and the objectives of the National Water Plan promoted by the SSRH.
