Cambodia National Training Workshop: IWRM Awareness and Planning


To implement the relevant law and regulations on water-related resource management in the Kingdom of Cambodia, capacity of government staff is required to understand the IWRM concepts, while the Law on Water Management in Cambodia (2007) encourages the application of Integrated Water Resources Management as the holistic approach for sustainable management and development of water and related resources in the country.
The capacity of the national line agencies for IWRM planning is still limited. To implement a bulk of government regulations related to water and related management - such as (1) National Strategic Development Plan 2006-2010; (2) Strategic Development Plan 2006-2010; (3) National Programme for Household Food Security and Poverty Reduction 2007-2011; (4) Joint Strategy for Agriculture and Water 2006-2010 and (5) Law on Water Resources Management in the Kingdom of Cambodia - requires specific skills in order to achieve the main purpose of the sustainable development.

Workshop Objectives
The overall objective of the Workshop is to bring together officers of key line agencies of the Government in order to exchange knowledge, and share experience and practices related to water resource development and management and to learn about IWRM concepts and their application in the planning process.
Through the presentations made by resource persons, the immediate objectives of the
workshop are:
To introduce to the participants the CapNet/AguaJaring/CamboNet
To introduce the national IWRM situation
To introduce to the participants the meaning of the IWRM aspects and its
application.
To orient the IWRM plan.

Expected Outputs
Through the Workshop the participants will be able to:
- Understand IWRM concepts well;
- improve their knowledge and skills in new water management approach; and
- apply IWRM in their water related planning process

Expected Participants
The Workshop expects to invite 40 participants who are representatives from the key
national line agencies related to water and related resources planning departments. They are also members of GWP Cambodia networks at the national and local level.

WORKSHOP APPROACH
The Workshop will be presented by resource persons and facilitated by a technical expert.
The Workshop will create an opportunity for all participants by:
- Development of awareness and imparting knowledge on the principles of IWRM;
- providing skill for integration of IWRM in project proposals; and
- case study and group work on national case study: Kratie-IWRM pilot project.

ORGANIZING THE WORKSHOP
The Workshop is organized as a collaborative effort for technical and financial support between AguaJaring and CNMC and is coordinated by Department of
Planning/CamboNet Unit of CNMC. It targets 40 participants who are members of GWP Cambodia networks and experienced in the field of water resources management and planning. Participants will be provided training materials at the Workshop.
