Several universities have over the last five years started post-graduate Programmes (MSc and PHD) in integrated water resources management (IWRM). The intention is to support the implementation of water sector reforms in many countries to progress towards more sustainable management and development of water resources.

In the current context IWRM as a resource management framework is still under the spotlight with different strategies to deliver water supply and sanitation services. Its implementation straddles historical management systems on the brink of collapse and the gradual shifting to a sustainable management regime incorporating IWRM principles. Similar to the growing process of IWRM implementation, the implementation of long-term capacity building strategies are relatively new. Cap-Net is proposing to support a workshop where the capacity builders engaged in these programmes can share insights and learn from the different experiences.

Purpose
The purpose of this workshop is to:

  • Examine the demand for MSc level education in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM);
  • Explore the approach and curriculum issues of what constitutes IWRM and whether this equips graduates with the skills/ knowledge for practical implementation.
  • Benefit from sharing experience on practical aspects of course management

The meeting will be held in Pretoria at Cap-Net offices. Contact Simone Noemdoe for more information. simone.noemdoe@cap-net.org
