Concepts and Principles of IWRM, Kigali, Rwanda.
Under the auspices of Nile IWRM-Net, the regional capacity building network for water resources management, a national training course on the Concept and Principles of IWRM, will be held in July 2008, Kigali-Rwanda.
To be Hosted by Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Collaboration with Rwanda Ministry of Natural Resources, 14-18 July 2008.
The main objective is to ensure that water managers are able to manage water effectively, so that senior water managers and professionals understand the concept of IWRM. While laying the background on the basic principals and concepts of IWRM, special attention will focus on institutional arrangements for IWRM implementation and the regulatory framework at local/ national level. The skills will be valuable in improving the ability of various professionals to implement IWRM.
Specific Objectives of National Training
Specific objectives national training will be based on enhancing coordination and capacity for sustainable water resources management. Those specific objectives are:
1. To create a sound cooperation among involved stakeholders to foster sustainable management of water resources in Rwanda,
2. To develop water management scenarios for the optimal use of scarce water resources for productive uses and sustainable investment in the water sector, and
3. To build institutional capacity and national water professionals for the purpose of sustainable water resources management, and
4. To build national networking mechanism and to share knowledge and experiences in IWRM
