International Scientific and Practical Conference on “Transboundary Cooperation in Central Asia – Safety, Stability, and Welfare of the Whole Region”- 7 to 8 September 2017, Kazakhstan.

The Executive Board of the International Fund of the Aral Sea (IFAS) in the Republic of Kazakstan in cooperation with the Kazak National Agrarian University (KazNAU) supported by the Central-Asian Regional Network of Capacity Building in the Area of Water Resources (CAR@WAN) and other partners, conducted the International Scientific and Practical Conference on “Transboundary Cooperation in Central Asia – Safety, Stability, and Welfare of the Whole Region”. The conference which took place on from 7 to 8 September 2017 was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Interstate Commission of Water Coordination and the process of preparing to the 8th World Water Forum (March 2018, Brazil).

Representatives of foreign country-partners of the IFAS, the EurAzEc, the EC, international, non-governmental organizations and financial institutions as well as heads of water-sector organisations of the Republic, representatives of public agencies involved, and of the Parliament members of the RK took part in the conference.

 The following themes of the Conference are as follow:

  • Water saving and integrated water resources management
  • Safety of hydro-technical utilities and prevention of emergencies in the context of climate change.
  • Amelioration and irrigated farming, agroecology and environmental protection at waterworks.
  • Agricultural water supply and flooding of pastures and use of renewable energy sources.

Activities (projects) to implement the Aral Sea Basin Program (ASBP) were also highlighted at the Conference. Based on the conference outcomes a resolution was adopted and sent out to all the stakeholders.
