Implementing IWRM:

Measuring Progress with IWRM

Many countries have adopted an IWRM approach to managing water resources but how do we measure if progress is being made? Good management of water resources has been elusive and part of the reason is that we do not have the tools to measure performance.

The draft indicators are being tested in several river basins (see Pungwe river , Mozambique) and were reported at the World Water Week in Stockholm. Have a look at the indicators and send your comments to Cap-Net. If you can complete the indicators for a basin so much the better. Let us know your experience. Look at the indicators.

The next training course using the indicators to assist river basin organisations implement IWRM is from November 24-28 in Indonesia.

IWRM and Climate Change

Together with partner networks, APFM/WMO and UNESCO-IHE, Cap-Net is engaged in addressing capacity building in adaptation to climate change in the context of IWRM. The programme developed at a workshop in Geneva in March built on the exchange between networks and partners. A first training of trainers took place from 4 to 8 August in Panama and follow up trainings are scheduled for October for the African networks and early November for the Asian networks. The development of a training package on the topic is planned around these events.
