The document is a summary made by Cap-Net of chapter 4 of “Proposal for a Strategic Guide to Assist in the Constitution of International Inter-State Commissions for Shared Water Resources” prepared by French Académie de l’Eau, (2000). The purpose of the document is to propose strategies for constituting a commission between countries that share the same basin in order to ensure that water resources are managed efficiently. Water Allocation and Demand Management.
- This is an abstract from the full document and gives a very good overview of the implementation of water allocation. The principles and guidelines are outlined and provide the framework from which to address the issue in an integrated manner. The principles address water rights, institutional issues, groundwater, prioritisation, scarcity and other issues.
The full document should be obtained for case studies and more detailed background.

This guide is based on 81 case studies that were considered positive. The document proposes 6 vital recommendations that cover all of the requirements in terms of making the public aware, informing them and training them about the problems of water. A certain number of procedures have also been described that will allow the decision makers to undertake actions in this sense. The 81 actions are more fully described in a second report, which is available from the Académie de l’Eau who also prepared this report.

The aim of this Sourcebook is to help promote the water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) campaign of the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council. In particular focussing on advocacy for policy change. A number of useful advocacy guides and manuals have been produced in recent years by civil society and other organisations. Rather than trying to 're-invent the wheel', this Sourcebook has drawn on these publications whenever possible, particularly with regard to the planning of advocacy work. They are referenced in the text and a full bibliography is given at the end of the Sourcebook. The document is rather long (and large at 1.2MB) but has very useful advice and tools on how to conduct awareness and advocacy programmes and can easily be adapted beyong water supply and sanitation into the broader issues of water resources management.

This provides guidelines for pollution control in specific industries. Information is contained in the Pollution Prevention and Abatement Handbook of the World Bank. Covering more than just water pollution, the guidelines provide useful industry specific data to begin addressing water and other pollution.
